Lord Snowdon was commissioned, in 1980, to undertake a photographic essay of Tasmania, covering as much of the picturesque island as possible.

The book is a selection from the many photographs taken, of which more than 150 are reproduced. All photos in full colour.

Antony Charles Robert Armstrong-Jones, 1st Earl of Snowdon, is an English photographer and Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker who sits in the House of Lords by a life peerage granted him in 1999. He was married to Princess Margaret from 1960 to 1978. Despite his divorce from Princess Margaret, he maintained a close relationship with the Royal Family and occasionally took official photographs of the Queen.
